Error:
R1C1 is not a valid cell reference.
Cause:
This error occurs because the Template Wizard does not accept the R1C1 reference style. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Excel.
Solution:
Set the reference style of the worksheet to the A1 style before starting Template Wizard and select the cell to reference with the mouse again. Or, enter the absolute cell reference in the Template Wizard using the A1 reference style.
1) If the message is still displayed, click 'OK' to dismiss the message.
2) Do one of the following:
a) In the 'Cell' box of the 'Template Wizard - Step 3 of 5' dialog box, type the absolute references of the desired cell using the A1 reference style.
EXAMPLE: Type '$A$5' instead of 'R1C5'.
b) Set the reference style to A1 before starting the Template Wizard and select the cell to reference with the mouse:
1] (Optional) Click 'Cancel' to close the Template Wizard.
2] Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Options...'. (The Options dialog box appears.)
3] Click the 'General' tab.
4] Select the 'A1' radio button from the 'Reference Style' group.

5] Click 'OK' to save the setting and close the 'Options' dialog box.
6] Select the 'Data' menu and select 'Template Wizard...' to restart the Template Wizard.
7] Follow the instructions displayed in the steps 1 and 2 of the Template Wizard.
8] When the 'Template Wizard - Step 3 of 5' dialog box is displayed, select the cell to reference with the mouse. (The correct cell reference appears in the Cell box of the dialog box. )
9] Type a field name for the selected cell in the 'Field name' box.
10] Click 'Next' to continue creating the template.
